Scroll down for Thoughts on 2005
I don't like resolutions. I think they are set-ups for failure and disappointment. If I want that I'll go out on yet another blind date. But I will say this, every goal I set for myself in 2005 - I achieved. And I discovered something about myself that I had not realized before. When I truly set my mind to something - it's mine. That is a powerful piece of information to posess, and it took me 40 years to get it.
And so, this year I am setting my mind to a new goal. And that is to find Mr. Right. He's out there. I know he is. And though I have managed to avoid him for all of these years by only spending time with various versions of Mr. Right Now, those days are over. My last heartbreak taught me that I am, even with my many flaws, a desirable person. That someone can fall in love with me despite all of my imperfections and idiosyncracies. And even though it didn't work out, it made me see that not only can someone fall for me, but that I want someone to. I want to be in a relationship again. I want what I see so many others have. I want that feeling of euphoria when I hear his voice. I want that ridiculous permanent smile that everyone asks about. I want to wake up and go to bed not just thinking of him - but with him.
This is a huge admission for me. Anyone who knows me in real life would fall on their ass if they read this (good thing hardly any of my real life friends do). But I am putting myself out there as of now. And I am going to find the one that I know is out there wondering where the fuck I've been all his life. Well, I'm right here babe. And now it looks like I'm going to have go out on those dreaded blind dates after all. Hey, ya never know.
Merry New Year!
I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives

Wooooo!!! I think that's so great Brooke!! :) I can't wait to hear about some of your blind dates. After making this big admission, I'm hoping you'll blog about some of your more interesting dates to come!
Oh, and just wait til Neil gets wind of this! heheh... :)
Look at me--blind dates can work! I think that's what you have to do. Just make sure your friends know you pretty well.
ur post reminds me of charlotte in sex and the city who resolves that "this will be the year i get married." and she did it! best of luck!

That's fantastic Brooke! Good luck to you in 2006! I'll be checking back to find out how your year is going!
Excuse me....what have you done
with Brooke!! Brooke are you in there... (knock, knock)
let the blind dates begin!!
geez, and i thought i was a late bloomer.
(now that you're out there viggo better watch out)
Best of Luck, Brookie!! I know there has to be a big turning point in your life for "the one" to enter it. For me, it was realizing I was dating losers and knowing I deserved better. I remember thinking that I'd rather be alone than with all the assholes I dated. I think when I realized that I deserved to be happy and loved, I met my hubby a few days later. No shit! :)
You'll find him Brooke.
I was beginning to think I never would - especially after all the drama of this summer.
But shortly after I declared a 'hiatus,' BAM! In walked Jack.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
Awesome post Brooke! I hope that you do find that special someone who thinks that you are the best thing since popcorn. Being single was fun, but I'd take being with my wife over it seven days a week. When I read a post like this, and some of the comments, I appreciate her and our life together even more. Thanks for that.
MoMo - well it's not going to be ALL about dating from here on in - first I actually have to get a date! And I can't date Neil -Sophia is going Hollywood and she is my six degrees of separation from Viggo. I have to keep her in my corner.
Bama - you are a blind date miracle! Have you blogged about that? I have to go look.
Anny - you're right! But was that the year she married the sexually repressed doctor? Cause that's no good for me.
Alissa - thank you! Don't get too excited, I haven't met anyone yet.
Roberta - I knew this would completely blow your mind. After 25 years of friendship I am finally admitting that I want to settle down. Astonishing I know. Good thing Hesster isn't around.
Dan - Viggo....a girl can dream...
Lo Lo - have I told you lately that I love you!!! That is exactly what I needed to hear. And that is exactly how I feel right now!
Girlie - I told you that you were one of my inspirations. You and MoMo and Pez too.
Flounder - thanks for the appreciation. And may I add how glad I am that you found your way to my blog. Got any hot single friends?
Brooke, you're making me want to cry. But in a good way. I think.
its your year, brooke :) happy new years!
Go you! I'm excited to read about the progress (please?).
As for resolutions, you should check out Paul Davidson's (pauldavidson.net) approach -- he made a list of dissolutions instead.
You go girl! If you find the right one, could you send his brother in my direction? Younger brother...I like the younger ones for some reason! Happy New Year babe!
if i wasn't already taken, i'd say "here i am."
but maybe i can offer my cat? he seems like a mister right. especially if you like redheads.
Of course I do, but they are all girls. Let me know if you are interested.
Wait for it....
Wait for it....
WAIT FOR IT!!!!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
You go girl!!! Make it all happen, and happy 2006!
Hesster here! Brooke, this is the best post ever. When should we have cocktails? I find you ridiculously attractive. Someone told me I should read this post of yours, so here I am .... the one that you love who loves you in so many ways. Understand the one that you love.... loves you in so many ways.
Yours truly,
Egan Hesster
Brooke, I totally share your wish for 2006. After knowing someone for 14 years in marriage, she is finding the he she needs isn't a he. We were a great couple for years and now I wish to have the deeply romantic relationship I had for a while early in my marriage. You'll get yours before I get mine. Only, stop looking for him. When you stop, you will find it staring at you. Good luck and find a way to enjoy the ride. Happy New Year!
Jill - no more tears babe. No more tears!
Darth - hope it's yours too!
Sandra - I'll keep everyone posted, but don't expect much too soon. And I did check out Paul's site and abused him as I always do.
Tumbleweed - we have had this discussion. I get the hot one.
Kendra - if I wasn't hopelessly heterosexual, I'd say "take me, I'm yours!"
Flounder - see response to Kendra.
Jiggs - you are the best. Everyone needs a cheerleader. I say we cheer each other on from here on in.
Chicky - cheers big ears! I'll be up bright and early to watch the Sydney celebrations.
Egan - you are adorable. I so appreciate your message. Oh, and the Hesster of which I speak - he is the ex that I did the google search on that led me to blogging. You know, the one with the abs.
FH - I hope you find yours too. And you're right - I won't look. But I won't look away either. Being open is the most important thing.
Hooray for you! Get out there and find out what is going on. I do think there is a perfect match for everyone and you will find yours.
I love abs Brooke as much as I love Air Supply.
Well, since you have the stones to be put yourself out there like that all I can say is I hope your 2006 rocks - like an early Springsteen & the E Street Band song (maybe Rosalita?). So here's wishing you fun, laughter and love in the new year.
I should probably set the same goal. I tend to be chickenshit about these things though.
happy noo year sparkly
GO TEAM!!!
Just remember, like spirituality, love find you, you don't usually find it.
Happy New year Brooke!
Brooke, love awaits you in Vegas, baby.
Brooke, love await you in my heart, baby! (sorry Todd, I had to do it)
Hope the new year brings you wonderful things. Cheers...
Good luck for the new year whatever it brings. I think you've had an incredible 2005. Here's hoping 2006 is successful in other ways.
Twisted - can I get a hell yeah!
Egan - every day you add more proof to my theory that you are indeed a homosexual.
Bill - there's no place for chickenshit on my blog. Please clean up after yourself.
Boo - merry new year to you too, you adorable little pixie.
Jiggs - how lucky I am to have such a fabulous cheerleader in my corner.
Phoenix - thank you, you are exactly right. I am not going out there on a manhunt, I am simply opening myself up to the possibilities.
Ruben - right back atcha!
Todd - you are such a love. I got your card and your email. And now I have your address too. HA! Don't be surprised to find me on your doorstep some day.
Egan - I'm not doing a threesome with you and Todd. I know you'll just ignore me for him anyway.
PEZ - I loved your post about your love - I am so happy for you! I have an ex that I wonder about...hmmmmm.....I look forward to hearing how you find each other again.
Dani - here's to that for both of us Jersey girls.
Sysm - does your wife know what a lucky woman she is to have such a lovely man in her life? I hope so.
WBB - what I said to Sysm goes double for you. Here's to 2006!
So true.
God I'm always late, anyway hoping ya rang in the New Years with style (as I know you did), happy new years brookster
rockin new year to you to.
Brooke, how will you ever choose between Egan and Todd?
Egan - youngish, married, breakdancer and troll-headed (cute troll headed)
Todd - older, single, member of weight watchers and knows how to handle his booze.
Choices, choices...
A Poem for Brooke
Life has no meaning for me now
It floats in the water
Like a buoy off Fort Lauderdale
Beautiful Brooke is dating
Love, dear Love, Mighty Goddess of Misery
What have I done to deserve this?
My search for love is over now
Dead and buried
Of course, there is the possibility
That these dates will not satisfy
The tempermental Ms. Wose
Which will only make her
More
Hornier
And
More
Likely
To Agree
to meet in Room 303 in the Miami Sheraton in March.
The Real Me - je t'aime beaucoup! That's a wonderful breakdown.
I'm sorry... I should'nt make fun of Sysm when he's being so nice.
I'll wait until later.
How about twins? Twins would be fun! I would be more than happy to take the dumb one since they will both be hot!
You go girl!
I set out in 2003 with a similar resolution. I not only went on blind dates, but even tried Internet dating. It sounds corny but "I met my match" on match.com. We got married in October of 2004 and still happy together.
So yeah blind dates can suck, but sometimes they work out. Go for it!
Mr. Right is out there. His full name is Mr Right Guard, though. You'll find him in the anti-perspirant aisle.
The surest way to find love is to not look for it.
(Wow! I just said something philosophical. Maybe the drugs did have...nevermind.)
So...Sex and the City. This blog should be a great read in 2006!
Cheers,
All the best
Claudia, I know you meant this blog is always a good read. It's one of my faves.
Damien - better late than never sweetie.
Jiggs - did you and your member have a wild night?
TRM - I'm such a lucky girl.
Neil - why do men always want to meet me in hotel rooms? Do I have "easy" written across my breasts?
Ubie - you know him better than I, but I think he is lovely.
Tumbleweed - twins? Been there..done that...umm...that's all I'm going to say on the matter.
Nelumbo - what an inspiration! I've had a lot of people tell me to try it. Anything is possible.
Squidly - that was so deep. And it smelled good too.
Charles - nice name. Kind of formal, but it works for you.
Claudia - I don't even have a date yet!
Egan - always looking out for me. Such a doll.
I just chilled out with some friends, ate food and goofed around with some musical instruments. All in all pretty boring for my member.
Dear Brooke--
I believe Ubermilf sent you to my page for a Cosmic Cake-Related Reason. I think you will find my choices for New Year's Resolutions refreshing, in that they rarely leave room for failure or disappointment.
Merry Cake Year, Brooke.
Signed,
The King
(a cakely emissary)
I'm not so sure about the online dating thing ... I looked at what men were saying to see what sorts of things I should say, and I looked at women to see what they were looking for. From what I can tell, men will say anything and sometimes it might might even be true. As for women - could they get more specific? He's got to be a certain height, have a certain income, a certain education, like specific things ... and have a sense of humor. Holy shit! Who's got a sense of humor when you're dealing with that?
Well, actually, I do. "I'm 6'2", have a PHd, make a 6 figure income and rope calves with my penis when I'm not feeding starving children on my charitable African travels. And I'm writing my third novel at my ocean front property which has a market value of $7 million. And I'm an acupuncturist, too."
No, I'd say stay away from the online dating world.
I'm not making any official new years resolutions, but I'm hoping not to break anything...myself or my car.
As for online dating, I don't plan on doing that either. The last time I did that my heart was broken.
I thought I'd commented already. Huh. I guess not.
For someone who has felt "inspired" for the past few days, you haven't written shit!
Good luck in searching for Mr Right. Me, I'm Mr White. Damn.
I never did get my mind out of the gutter from your 2005 reflections. :)
Hope you had a great Christmas, and I wish you all the best for the New Year!
Holy Crap! Owl!
You go girl! I made a similar resolution at the beginning of 2002. By February 2nd I'd met my man! I recommend a trip to Jamaica (it worked for me). I actually met my man at Hedonism II. Great place, all inclusive, great staff, just avoid the "life-style" guests (aka "swingers") and you'll be fine. ;D
