This will be the first in what I am sure will be a long series of mini-posts about why teaching is so cool. Trust me when I tell you that salary, paperwork, respect, parents, and boogers will not ever be a part of these posts.
After we returned to the classroom from lunch today, Tuffy* raised his hand and made the following announcement:
"Ms. Wose, we took a vote during lunch and we said you have to ask the principal if you can teach 2nd grade next year. Cause we want you to be our teacher next year too."
And then they all screamed YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
And I did all I could not to cry.
*I plan on writing a post with descriptions and nicknames for all my little monsters.

I think it would be a very rewarding experience to usher children into adulthood by being their teacher all the way through school. And then you could start over.
Think about how well you wouls get to know your students and their families, and how well they would get to know you.
that's so adorable! i can actually picture that happening in my head. and to think you almost cried. i just knew you were a big softy.
Oh you. Now I'm crying, damnnit.
I'm crying because I wish this would happen for me at work!
Is it wrong that when you talk about teaching I picture you like Michele Pfeiffer in Dangerous Minds? And Coolio is behind you, rapping . . .
Nick - it's a nice idea. But it's really better for the kids to have a variety of teachers. Going from one year to the next would be cool though. Unfortunately I'm not going to be in Florida next year. I think part of the reason I almost cried was I realized I won't get to see them grow up.
Dan-e - oh I'm a crybaby, believe me. As they say in Australia - I'm a big sook.
Owl - ya big sook!
Kris - it's wrong because compared to Michele Pfeiffer I look like a troll. And if you can imagine Coolio at age 6 rapping, then you have the right picture.
Awww...
I cannot wait to have 'Why I Love To Teach' moments like that.
It's stories like that that make me wish I could speed through the rest of my program so I could spend the day with little monsters of my own.
I should remember that I'm saying this now...in a few years, I may be singing a different tune, LOL.
Awwww.... sooo sweet! :)
Those kids are never gonna forget Ms. Wose, that's for sure.
And btw, I'm also noticing that you're feeling sexy. What's up with that? Did the cop come back with flowers and a request to take you out to dinner? ;)
Girlie - trust me, there are enough teachers in blogland who can tell you that as bad as it can get, it's all worthwhile. Just ask MoMo right above!
MoMo - Funny you should say that! I was walking into my building yesterday and I heard a horn honk - yep, cop. He just honked and waved - but it was kind of amusing. I'm feeling sexy cause I just cut my hair off and it's all curly and bouncy again and I've been getting lots of compliments. Always good for my fragile ego.
Cool - that's the ultimate compliment. If the beasts you torture ask for more...
oh wait, that sounds twisted...
TRM - it doesn't sound twisted at all. Unfortunately the beast I was most recently torturing not only didn't ask for more but tossed me aside like yesterday's news.
At least my monsters love me.
YAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!
I'm crying! And smiling. And then crying... aren't they wonderful? Last year I volunteered in my son's classroom and those kids were the best.
I look forward to this series with baited breasts.
Monkey's Human
ok. where the fuck have i been?! i totally took a break from reading your blog because i thought you were on hiatus and now i am behind in brooke blog reading. balls!
i shall never stray again.
:) sizz
i'm very excited as well.. i always love the times I see my fav students and they say things like "we keep hoping our teacher will get sick so we can have you again"
its kinda wrong, but the sentiment is nice.
That's so sweet! I wonder which one of them will hold your hand as he/she take you to see the principal. :)
Where were you when i was in Grade 1?
(Don't tell me - a gleam in your daddy's eye, to employ an old joke.)
That is the sweetest thing! I know you have to be the best teacher. :)
Damn that's a cute story. I would have cried, but I am bone dry inside. This cold of mine is killing me. I like Nick's idea, but if you didn't like your teacher, it would suck to have them year after year. Thanks for sharing the positive aspects of educating our children.
I hope they carry your positive influence throughout their education, and remember you when they have a not-so-good teacher.
And I am amazed Nick wasn't a smartass.
Though I'm not a big fan of children, I have to admit that it is moments like that that make me think they are alright. (Then I go to Target and hear one of them bawling their eyes out, and I'm back where I started...)
That is really sweet. I truly belive ther eis no more noble and underappreciated profession on earth. Bless you.
That is so awesome, even though it made me cry.
Am I the only one that noticed that Monkey's Human said "baited breasts"?
When the manager of my neighborhood In-n-Out Burger found out I joined weight watchers, she cried in front of all of her employees. That's not the same, is it?
Fragile ego, Brooke? You're smart, hot, funny, a good cook. How's that? Oh, and a snazzy dresser.
hey todd, i can totally relate. when i told my local in 'n out manager that i was moving east, they flew their flags at half-mast.
Viggo said he's sorry for dumping you, but...
(is this getting old yet?!)
:)
Jiggs - yay!!
Monkey's Human - I look forward to your baited breasts.
Sizz - what a nice thing to say! I'm sorry I'm such a fickle girl. What can I say.
Knitty - it's wrong but as usual - things that are wrong usually the ones that feel the best.
Chicky - funny you should say that. I took one on a trip to the principal yesterday. Did him some good, he was an angel today.
Bill - I don't even think I was a thought yet.
Marel - today they said they want me to be their mommy. I draw the line at that one!
Egan - thank you for the appreciation.
Jacob - I've always wanted to choke your shit up.
Ubie - thank you. And I was quite amazed myself.
Kate - it's like the old saying. I can stand my kids, but the rest of them....forget it.
Phoenix - thank you very much. You are buying the drinks when I get to NY.
Amy - imagine how hard it was for me not to cry!
Nick - I noticed it too. I can't wait to see her baited breasts.
Todd - Todd Todd Todd! You always know just what to say.
Dan - I have never been to this In n Out place. I'm a Cheeburger Cheeburger girl myself.
TRM - yeah...getting a bit old. If only he had been the one to dump me. That I could handle!
that's funny cuz i've heard of cheeburger cheeburger but never been there.
that is so sweet!!
actually, darth jr. was fortunate to be involved in an experiment his school did of taking the kindergarten class to first grade with the same wonderful teacher-made the transition at that age so seamless for both kids and parents :p
This is just the sweetest thing. You are an awesome teacher to inspire that kind of devotion. Hooray for Ms Wose!!!!
