The Ring

An elderly, white haired man walked into a jewelry store one Friday evening with a beautiful young gal at his side. He told the jeweler he was looking for a special ring for his girlfriend. The jeweler looked through his stock and brought out a $5,000 ring and showed it to him.

The old man said, "I don't think you understand, I want something very special."

At that statement, the jeweler went to his special stock and brought another ring over.

"Here's a stunning ring at only $40,000," the jeweler said.

The young lady's eyes sparkled and her whole body trembled with excitement.

The old man seeing this said, "We'll take it."

The jeweler asked how payment would be made and the old man stated, "By check and I know you need to make sure my check is good, so I'll write it now and you can call the bank Monday to verify the funds. I'll pick the ring up Monday afternoon," he said.

Monday morning, a very teed-off jeweler phoned the old man. "There's no money in that account!"

"I know." said the old man, "But can you imagine the weekend I had?"

And just in case my future husband is out there....this is the ring that will get me tremblin'

Is it okay to want the ring without the husband?

I'm hoping there will be a new movement toward "unengagement" rings...

I'm not bitter... really... just a visionary ;o)

(uh... and okay - maybe a teensy bit bitter)

Interesting idea. I like how you think.

its funny how much stock we put in rings..
I'm just as bad, and I don't know why.
My brother once said he would buy a girl an "engagement stereo". I told him "good luck with that!"

nice choice in rings.

Oh, oh, OH! I like the shiny, sparkly, platinum/diamond thing!

Though I'm not a big gem girl, I did have the dream ring, antique Art Nouveau platinum setting...but the guy sucked.

Make sure they are both of the highest quality.:)

Aw Brooke, you said you wouldn't tell anyone! Mrs Owl is still waiting for the ring...

:D

Knitty - I'm guessing your brother is still single. Am I right?

Southern - I seem to have no luck in that department. I think I may take "me's" advice and just become engaged to myself.

Owl - you are lucky she put up with you all this time without it!

There's always the "right hand ring" ... for the independent woman who buys her OWN bling-bling! :)
(and, coincidentally, doesn't have to bang old farty guys to get it!)

my brother is perma single...

MoMo - we used to have a joke about that - marry a man who is 80/80/80. 80 years old, 80 days to live, 80 million dollars. But I think I'll just stay single.

Knitty - me too it seems.

I really don't want to comment about the ring, although it is very pretty.

I love your blog. My favorite entry - "If I Were in Charge of the World: Part One". Very funny. Thought provoking too. Sent it to a friend of mine, he is a Weight Watcher leader. I suppose there would still be Weight Watchers after all "fatness" is partly brought on by our beliefs and our attitudes. Lose the attitude(s), lose the weight. (I can say that - I know it personally - I've lost 80 pounds and it's been off for almost 2 years. Size 22 - Size 8. Size does matter).

Happy Blogging!

A big Diamond? Please-Diamonds are common, love is not. Try something like a Alexandrite(russian, fetches 10-25x per carat, and changes with the mood of the wearer), Bixbite(Red Beryl, the same family as an Emerald or Aquamarinew, but is rare as hell). Call me crazy, but as a guy who is contemplating playing penguin to my gal, She is something that is so rare to me that she deserves something beautiful AND rare.

Great blog-I will be back.

I don't know who you are Geoffrey Hirschfeld, but I want THIS RING! Got it!
You can buy me those other gems too though. I have no problem with that.
