..to make up for the 10 places I have never been.
10. Swam The Gellért Baths in Budapest.
9. Snorkeled and sailed the Great Barrier Reef.
8. Stayed in the smallest town in Italy.
7. Spent a day discovering the architecture of Antoni Gaudi.
6. Hung out in a biker bar in Amsterdam.
5. Found Casa Malaparte while wandering around Capri, without having any previous knowledge of its existence.
4. Went to Père Lachaise Cemeteray to wish Jim Morrison a Merry Christmas.
3. Saw Bon Jovi in concert at Olympic Park, in Munich.
2. Had ice cream with Dave Brubeck at the New Orleans Jazz Festival.
And the number one incredibly coolest place I have ever been.... drumroll please...
1. The Berlin Wall. New Year's Eve, 1989.

But have you been to Kansas?
Wow, you've seen a lot in your time on this planet. Asia and Africa are next on my list.
Snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef must have been really cool.
Mow THAT is a list I can relate to excellent stuff. It seemzs you and I have hung out in some very similar places across Europe.
My coolest concerst abroad were:
U2 in Dublin
The Pogues in London
The Cure in London
Toots and the Maytals in Amsterdam
Egan - I have never been to Kansas. As for Asia - been there! Well, I've been to Hong Kong and Macau. And the Great Barrier Reef was incredible.
Phoenix - see? This is why you should have held out for me - we are perfect for each other. By the way, I also saw INXS in Sydney.
That wa YOU at the Hotel Gellért?! Oh my, how embarrassing...
I actually preferred Szechenyi as there was no gender seperation. But Gellért was still awesomeness.
Gotta love the Spa/Sauna thing.
Here's my list
1. Münich during Easter
2. Stonehenge
3. Your pants
4. Space
5. Bethlehem circa B.C. 5
Some of these may not be true.
I just don't know if any of that makes up for the fact that you haven't been to Denny's...
Except for one of your incredibly cool places, this list still makes you sound like a bad American. Man, I wish I could be as bad an American as you. I've been to Kansas, but only left the country once, and Nogales really doesn't even count.
Churlita, you live too close to Kansas for it to count too. Nogales is like Tijuana right?
Uh, there was a bar in the Sunset Station Casino called the Gaudi Bar. http://www.flowcorp.com/uploadedImages/Resources/Case_Studies/Waterjets/Gaudi-Bar.jpg
I used to drink there.
That's all I got. I'm so ashamed.
You are so way cooler than me.
Although I have been to Estonia. And to the fish room at the Smithsonian.
And to my own pants.
Rich - I was meant to get a massage too, but I ran screaming when I saw Helga the Hungarian Javelin Thrower waiting for me.
Nick - is that why you and Jesus fight the way you do?
Kallun - it's really becoming a badge of shame at this point.
Churlita - hey now. Bon Jovi is an American band! And Jim Morrison is American too! So what if he's dead.
Egan - you tell her!
Spin - see I've never been to Estonia. But given the choice, I'd rather be in your pants.
I was mearly arrested in West Berlin for busking. no one told me it was against the law there, and I spent 3 days in East Berln ( illegally) in the days before the reunification.
I can't pronounce most of those places and I am not sure who some of those people are, so they don't really matter.
Jim Morrison went to Florida State so I will recognize his greatness.
Damn girl, you get around (wink wink). I also went to see Jim at Pere Lachaise and was incredibly disappointed that his grave was fenced in and guarded due to vandals. I even brought a bottle of wine to drink with him.
I think I like nbr.6 the best :)
I am so jealous of this list I can't even bring myself to click on those links. Maybe if I make a similar list, I'll feel better. But I doubt it. YOU'RE OLD!
KIDDING.
I love The Brooke.
I LOVE your number one. Both my boyfriend and I were born in Berlin (I'm American, he's German), and his family was there at the wall when it came down in November. That's so cool that you were among the first people to go into the eastern part of the city when it was free!
I'm now inspired to do my own post like this. Thanks!
I've been to Sysm's house.
"house"
How did you end up having ice cream with Dave Brubeck?
What was that stupid song long ago.... lyric went something like "but I've never been to me..."
That's what this post made me think of!
Lame, I know.
Hyper - you rebel! You're lucky you didn't get stuck there til '89.
Flounder - I like that you revel in your ignorance. It's very comforting.
Mel - I know! They totally spray painted his grave. Asshats. We spent all of Christmas morning with him.
Mone - that's a special one for me too.
Jill - I am old! But I did all this stuff in my 20's. Since then I've been boring as fuck.
Airhead - my pleasure! You don't have your blog listed in your profile or I'd be happy to come see your post.
Ubie - tramp.
Neil - I almost blogged about this, but it happened so long ago that I don't really remember the details. When I was 12 I visited my brother in New Orleans. He and his friends took me to the jazz festival where I managed to get myself lost. As I wandered around the fairgrounds, a nice man approached me and said I shouldn't be wandering alone. He got ice cream for us and then we sat on a bench waiting for my brother to find me. When I finally spotted my brother, I told the nice man that I saw him, and he left saying, "See you at the show." My brother actually ran right by me trying to catch up with the guy. He was screaming, "Do you know who that was!!!!!!!! That was Dave Brubeck!!!! The star of the SHOW!!!! You were sitting with DAVE BRUBECK!!!" To this day my brother is mad at me for not introducing him.
TRM - totally lame.
BTW, you're number 2 would have been my number 1. :o)
Wow. I am having some serious travel envy right about now. Your list has given me something to aspire to in the not-so-distant future when my little bird flies away.
i have been to the 99 cent store on wilshire and fairfax.
it's the nicest one.
Yeah... have you been to Omaha? :)
Casa Malaparte!!! You are the coolest. Got "Contempt"? Got photos to post?
You've been a lot of places, you should post pics.
I was in Amsterdam a year or so after you, March of 90 or 91. Funny, on our way home some guy was power lifting his chunck of "the wall" when about 14 stewards took his cement away from him.
Your Dave Brubeck story nearly made me pee in my pants.
I will now be humming "Take Five" for the rest of the night and thinking of you.
In my pants.
Without the pee.
that berlin one is awesome. I'm envious.
I feel so insignificant in comparison.
The coolest place you've haven't been is to my place! Actually, you might want to put that on the list of places you're proud to have never been.
I've once walked into a lesbian bar with 12 men who were in drag.
It was in Canton, Ohio.
That was pretty singular.
Dilf and Sysm are in Miami right now.
Wow. Forget Wal-mart. You've been pretty much everywhere else.
And the Berlin Wall? In '89? Awesome. I got to go in '90, but by then they were already breaking up pieces and selling them off.
Well, I'm just jealous.
I'm also jealous of the list of places you have NOT been.
Apparently, I suck.
But! I did throw up in a McDonald's in Toronto, and I did fall down a flight of castle stairs in England. So.
I've been to an all night package store in Harlem at 3am!
It was most exciting!
I liked when you called Ubie a tramp.
Hi Egan!
I have been to McDonald's in NY, London, Rome, and Paris. Yes, I am TOO COOL for words (andV- traveling with children).
Wow, you really get around! ;-)
Good times. I'm going to have to read your link to the biker bar in Amsterdam because I did that too!
Yes, but have you ever been to my house?
As for me, I saw Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in Ottawa. That was the first time. They were touring Born to Run.
Now THAT was a concert.
So, no Walmart yet?
Kansas rcoks!!
*rocks
it's the meds
Wow, I hpoe to go to just half of those places.
That's it. I'm leaving work right now, getting on a plane and not coming back until i've seen at least one of those places.
